FAQS

1. What do I need to bring?

At JB Surf School we provide everything you need for surfing—safe, soft surfboards, rashvests and wetsuits. As our wetsuit sizes are generic, if you have your own wetsuit or rashvest it’s a good idea to bring it with you. We normally advise clients to bring normal beach gear including sunscreen, water and towels. Access to Cave Beach is down a gravel track so thongs or shoes for the walk is advisable.

2. How old do my children have to be?

We have taught 4 year olds to surf before and they loved it! It really depends on the confidence of the child. For young children we ask that you are ready to help in the water if needed.

3. What happens when the weather is bad?

Lessons will usually run even if it is raining. Because safety is our number one priority lessons will be rescheduled or moved to another beach if the surf is considered dangerous by our instructors. This happens very rarely as the beaches we choose to operate on have ideal features for beginner surfers.

4. Where do we meet you?

We ask all our clients to meet us in the carparks of the beaches we operate on. Please aim to be there 10-15mins before the start of your lesson as this enables us to spend the maximum amount of time in the water.

5. Can I bring my own board?

Depending on the type of board you have. In group lessons we prefer clients to use our boards for safety reasons. If you are in a private lesson and wish to use your own board this would be fine. Many of our clients wish to be able to surf on their own boards by the end of a series of lessons. Please let us know on your first day and we will cater for your needs.

6. How many students per instructor?

Our ratios are a maximum of 8 students per instructor which allows for plenty of one-to-one tuition. Most of our instructors are also qualified school teachers making them excellent in providing feedback and advise.

7. Can we turn up without booking?

Bookings are essential. Please make sure you book as we would hate it for you to turn up and miss out!

8. What time do your lessons run?

Our group lessons run daily from 8.30-10.30 and 10.30-12.30. Afternoon sessions can be arranged and are dependent on the conditions.
Private lesson times will vary depending on client needs, conditions and instructor availability.

9. Do you hire boards and wetsuits?

Yes, board and wetsuit hire is available. (See pricing page)
